HOW TO VOLUNTEER WITH THE MEAL

The Bread and Jams Sunday Meal is divided into two volunteer shifts. The First Shift starts at 2:00 p.m. and ends at 5:00 p.m. It involves both prepping and cooking the dishes. The Meal Coordinator along with a group of volunteers sort through the donated food and decide what to prepare for the meal that day. You do not need to bring any cookbooks or set menu ideas. Just come with a sense of fun and adventure in cooking. You will not be expected to prepare a whole dish on your own. The Meals provides an excellent opportunity to work within a team setting.

The Second Shift starts at 5:00 p.m. and ends at 7:30 p.m. It entails both serving the food and cleaning the kitchen and seating area. Musicians who want to come and play for the Meal should sign up for second shift and specify that they want to provide music. There is a grand piano available in the hall. Volunteers are always welcome to interact with the folks at the Meal and are also invited to eat at the Meal. The Meal is a "Community Meal" where all are welcome to attend. To sign up for either shift send an email with your contact information.

There are no age requirements for volunteers. Parents are welcome to bring children, however we recommend the second shift as being more suitable for younger children. When bringing youth groups we do ask that there is one adult chaperone per every five children under sixteen years old. Also, we request that any group composed of at least 8 people bring one donation from our weekly wish list. We have to buy meat and dairy each week, and your donations will greatly help us stay on budget. Please note that during the school year, shifts book up very quickly, and in the summer we often we do not have enough volunteers signed up for shifts.

Donated food items are always graciously accepted.

(l. to r.) Frances, Adrian, and Dana are three children who donated the earnings from their summer (2002) lemonade sales. As the story goes, they surfed the web to find a local non-profit and picked us! We can't thank them enough and are very touched by their thoughtfulness.
